Teens will travel throughout New England and around the east coast. They will travel in vans and SUVs with cargo trailers towed along behind. Every night will be spent at a public or private campgrounds. There are only 10 to 16 kids on each expedition. The students will travel together for two weeks doing adventures along the way. We will start the Adventure Here at Adventure Travel Camps home base. We will spend the first night here preparing to for the trek. There will be getting to know you games and some teambuilding activities.
Hiking- you will hike on some of New England's most breathtaking hikes. You will hike from 1 to 8 miles and climb some steep hills and mountains. You will be rewarded with views that are breathtaking.
Backpacking- hike on the Appalachian trail. We hike with packs and camp at designated areas on the long trail. We hike up to 14 miles a day.
Flat Water Kayaking- you will kayak down rivers and across lakes. New England has many great areas to tour by canoe or kayak. Kayaks and canoes are prefect vehicles to spot wildlife or have an awesome and exciting day. We will teach everyone basic flat-water canoe and kayak paddling techniques, as well as correct ways to enter and exit boats.
Mountain Biking- you will experience cross-country mountain bike tours through-out New England. The rides are set up for most ability levels. Riding skills, bike handling, exposure to various terrain surfaces, trail etiquette, and environmental impacts are all issues and topics you will learn. You will be able to try cross-country mountain rides on quiet country dirt roads & classic New England single track.
Caving- you can go on a caving expedition if you would like. You will go deep into the ground exploring the underworld. You will have to go through some very small holes to get to large underground rooms. We will take you to underground streams and waterfalls. You will see some spectacular rock formations. You will go over the Waterfall, go to the Lake, go to the Scenic over look, and go down the Funnel.
Rock Climbing- you will learn the basics of rock climbing and climb 80 foot cliffs and rappel over waterfalls. Students will learn how to tie into the climbing rope, how to belay another climber on top rope, how to properly anchor themselves while belaying, and basic climbing technique. Climbing safety will constantly be stressed while climbing.
White Water Rafting- you will raft down a class 2 & 3 rivers, swim in the slow water and swing on a rope into the water. The class II and III rapids on our rafting trips are ideal for beginner and intermediate rafters, and the unspoiled valley creates the perfect setting for wilderness adventure.
White Water Kayaking Instruction- You can also choose to learn the basics of white water kayaking. We teach you how to maneuver the boat in a lake or pond in the first clinics. Then we practice in some white water up to class 2. We spend lots of time in white water helping students gain experience and confidence.
Orienteering- We will take you down a gorge from the top to the bottom. You will rappel into the gorge where you will be hooked up onto safety bolts that are in the rocks in the river. From here you will stay on rope as you maneuver down the river. The currents are strong and we will show you how to safely maneuver over rocks and through holes.
